BBC Look East visit

The Sunday Times contacted Nick via the Woodland Trust for an interview about the work we have been doing at Overbury to regenerate hedges and woodland and plant new trees and new hedges to link woodland together. This was used for article on the Woodland Trust's initiative to get 64 million trees planted over the next 10 years by farmers and landowners.

The mention of our work at Overbury then prompted BBC Look East to do a feature on the Woodland Trust's 10 year plan. They asked to come to Overbury and interview us and film what we have been up to; Kevin Burch came with a cameraman on 5th May. They were a great pair to spend some time with and they took some clips as we went around the farm. As you can tell from the piece that was broadcast, the dogs (Truffle and Crumpet) were the stars of the day.

Cows and calves out to grass 1st day this year

We finally got the Mums and their calves out to grass on 27th April; being so cold at night we have been bringing them in at night. Within a short time they looked totally relaxed and pleased to be out.

South Suffolk Show - 8 May 2016

We had a good start to our 2016 showing season at South Suffolk Show. We had 1st in Heifer Class (okay only 2 entries; both our herd) but she went on to be Female Champion in the Angus Class. Next up Overbury Hall Bomber, our 14 month old bull, who was 2nd behind a Shadwell bull in the bull class for bulls born after 1/01/15. He was then placed Reserve Male Champion and finally Breed Reserve Champion. It was 27C on the Showground, so uncomfortable for both cattle and humans alike. Next stop Hadleigh Show on 21st May. Some photos of the day below.

We enjoyed meeting Jess and Buzz Musk at the Show; Jess’s family are long standing Angus cattle people with the Temple Herd in Somerset. Jess and Buzz are building up an Angus herd in Suffolk.

Next stop for us is Hadleigh Show on Saturday 21st May, followed by Suffolk Show (1st and 2nd June).

Overbury Hall Farm Dawn Chorus Walk 30th April 2016

Pasted Graphic 1

At 5.45am, as the group drove into Overbury Hall, Edward the Cockerel was crowing to greet us, underlining the fact that it was dawn, and time for the walk. Tom McJannet was here to lead a birds and birdsong walk around Nick and Liz Reid’s Overbury Hall Farm, in aid of Liz’s charity, The Porch Project. While we were greeting each other in the car park a Swallow flew over the house, a Pied Wagtail perched on the barn roof, Goldfinches flitted into a tree and Blue Tits, Great Tits, Song Thrushes and a Blackbird were all singing vigorously.
